Day 31: Red

I'm currently doing a paper weaving project with my 2nd graders and a yarn weaving project with my 3rd graders, so I decided to incorporate it into my project for the day. I wove together tiny strips of paper that were about 1/8" wide. I can't believe I have done this now for one whole month and still have some untapped ideas for red. YAY!
Peace and Fabulousness!

Day 30: Red

Between teaching, staff meeting with my presentation, my 100 day fitness challenge and an added work project, was afraid I wouldn't get today's red project done OR would have to stay up late on a school night. But I saw scraps leftover from a previous project and decided to reuse them and create a flower with it. The petals were leftover water colored pieces. Today I once again learned that enthusiasm and sharing of one's passions can make a great class period even with a challenging group! :) Peace and fabulousness (and pictures tomorrow ) whew! This flower almost got covered in tomato soup! Though it's red, it wouldn't have been pretty.

Day 29: Red

I was so tired today, I almost felt like not doing anything, but my stubborness kicked in.
I chose to do a pen and ink picture, similar in style to one I did earlier in the month. It's a style I typically do in black and white. I wish the red would be more bold. Peace and fabulousness!

Day 28: Red

Today I did one more paper cut. Not super happy with it (Feels very elementary schoolish) but I was anxious to work on a piece I'm donating to a silent auction. I also wanted to start playing around with some other projects ...not red. :)
Peace and fabulousness!

Day 27: Red

Wow! Today's idea kind of took on a mind of it's own. I really had no idea when I started out what I was actually making nor did I realize how big it would turn out to be! It's about a foot and a half wide. The picture of this piece doesn't really capture the fact that most of the sections are off the paper at their center. Kind of like birds taking off from the water with their wing tips in the water. It gradually get's higher to the center, where the very center is off the paper about an inch. (I wish I knew how to work in metal, plastics or glass to do this one in another medium.) Have a great weekend! As usual, I will comment on what I make over the weekend and post photos of this weekends pieces on Monday! Peace and Fabulousness!!

Day 26: Red

Today's piece is entitled "Shattered Paper ".
Photo tomorrow! ;) Peace and fabulousness!

Day 25: Red

I was doing paper snow flakes with my 2nd graders. I decided to do one myself using red paper. It just didn't seem enough for this project so I trimmed the center out and reversed it, thus adding a different dimension to it. The real challenge was glueing it to the paper. Could you imagine if snow was multicolored or a different color each time it snowed? So cool. Peace and fabulousness!

Day 24: Red

Whew! Tuesday are something else. My students were awesome today. So as I walked around my class interacting with them about their projects, I starting making /folding the petals for a poppy. I can't believe I didn't think of doing a poppy sooner.! I remember biking past poppies growing in the ditches in Europe ...those bursts of color against the earth tones were amazing. Peace and fabulousness! D'oh! Forgot my camera at home - picture will be posted tomorrow! oops! Found it! Tee hee hee!

Day 23: Red

I was going to finish Sunday's paper cut scrap picture, but decided to do an abstract type painting instead. My perfectionist side isn't fully sure I like it but the day is drawing to a close .... Peace and fabulousness!

Day 22: Red

One of my goals for the new year is to waste/waist less. So for today's project I decided to take the clippings from yesterday's paper cut and turn them into a new piece. I arranged all the pieces into the design that I wanted and started to glue them to another white piece of paper. Half way through the process this little fella started to emerge! What an awesome surprise that was! I abandoned the other project (which I'll finish tomorrow) and proceeded to glue this little dude to the paper it was on adding a few extra details for more personality. Just makes me smile! A shout out to my parents who were in town this weekend! They are 2 amazing people whom I am lucky enough to call mom and dad! Peace and fabulousness! Note to self: I need to find a different space to take pictures of these projects. The paper should look white not yellow.

Day 21: Red

With my folks in town for the weekend I was a little worried that I wouldn't get a project done for today. But I did!
I did a paper cutting project which will be posted Monday. Peace and fabulousness!

Day 20: Red

Happy Friday!
I had some fun creating today's project while my students worked on there. I try to be creative with them on occasion, so they can see me in the creative process and sometimes it sparks ideas in them. Not only that but the conversations I overhear. One little girl told me, "Wouldn't it be great if we woke up to everything covered in bacon instead of snow?" Kids are amazing!

I'm still in the paper cutting vein. I did a variation of the papercut snowflakes using petal shaped red paper, glued to a white background. I like that contrast. The center is a bit weak, so I'll have to butch it up in the back.
Have a great weekend, more picture posts on Monday!
Peace and fabulousness!

Day 19: Red

Paper art is a medium that has always interested me and brought me much enjoyment, and yet I don't do much of it. So I thought I'd have a bit of fun today and do a paper origami rooster with a paper background. Throw in a little corn meal, a flash and Coockadoodledo - instant project!
Peace and Fabulousness!

Day 18: Red

As the temps dive into the deep freeze, I just want to hunker down and being tired doesn't help. Had a case of ennui, but decided to do a simple acrylic painting on another tiny canvas.
For Day 19 I'm thinking rooster???
Peace and fabulousness!

Day 17 : Red

I came to realize that, even though I am attempting to create something every day, it doesn't mean that it will look "pretty" or mean that it has to I guess. That is going to be my ongoing challenge, since I can be a perfectionist in my art. I think I now have 5 or 6 started red projects that just weren't going to look good enough. May have to come up with a way to save them and collage them together or something.
So for day 17, I did a mini acrylic painting of a flower (another challenge to overcome getting away from flowers. Is it an easy way out? :}.
Peace and fabulousness!

BTW if you have any comments or suggestions all the way, feel free to leave them on here!

Day16: Red

Due to the water park opening in my basement, the day of creative fun didn't quite happen as planned. I can't complain, I have a home and plumbing!
I did a red pen design which turned out true to form. As they root through my pipes (no comments :) I'm taking yesterday's black n white and redoing it in the style of my "Adam" all leafy and such. Pictures posting tomorrow.

Thank you Dr. Martin Luther King Jr for your stand for peace in thought, words, action and wisdom.
Peace and fabulousness!!

Day 15: Red

Found myself in a bit of panic today. With such a short amount of time today,(church in the morning - pub crawl this afternoon) I found my mind frozen with indecision as to what to do for today's piece.

So after 2 off starts I did a red ink drawing of a mouth ...you ask why? So do I.
Peace and fabulousness!

Day 14: Red

Interesting day of trying to be creative. A project I'm working on for a friend keeps hitting glitches, but I think (hope ) I'm close to solving it. It can be so frustrating when the medium doesn't perform like it should. But that's part of the process. Hopefully buying a different brand of watercolor paper will solve this. Water color painting is a hit and miss proces with me lately.

Today's color project I have taken thin red paper strips and layered them in a circlular fashion. I had wanted to get away from flowers a bit, but look what happened (oops you can see it Tuesday )
Peace and fabulousness!

Day 13: Red

If I finish today's piece it'll be amazing. Feel like the whole world has shifted off it's axis a bit. Just grateful it's FRIDAY! I was thinking in honor of Beyonce's new baby Blue Ivy, I should have started this journey with blue. Random! Today's piece is composed of petals done on water color paper painted with water colors. The center is done with colored pencils.
Peace and Fabulousness!
(BTW The weekend pieces I'll describe and then post the pictures on Monday. Have a great weekend!)

Day 12: Red

Why is it, after many nights of not so great sleep, when one finally does sleep through the night, you feel more tired than when you didn't sleep? HUH? After 3 different idea attempts, I settled on doing a red flower with colored pencils. I feel as if I could have another hour or so of more layers of colors, but enough is enough, especially when grading is due!!
Peace and Fabulousness!

Day 11: Red

This week is doing me in! Since I have book club tonight (YAY!!!) I decided to use lunch and after school to create this paper flower. It's made from a thin paper and colored over with colored pencil. The ripple on the petals are caused by folding and the colored pencils. Not sure I'm 100% happy with the center, but I figured a center that is too busy would take away from the petals coolness! Happy Hump Day!
(It's nice to be posting on my blog on the correct day with photo!)
Peace and Fabulousness!

Day 10: Red

Today was a challenge to something done> Between my full day of students, piles of work to complete, and trying to squeeze in as much time as possible outside in the 52 degree (in January) day, felt a little pressed for time. Started painting, but realized that would consume the entire evening, then moved to colored pencils, then brought it down to basics and kept it simple with a ink drawing.
Peace and Fabulousness!

Day 9: Red

This piece I created with more of the watercolor painted paper. It's a cross between Day 8 and Day 7's piece. I think I wanted something simple and precise, since I was watching it during the show Hoarders.
I learned some valuable lessons this morning. A) Find a better way to transport finished 3D pieces B)I still dislike

gravity and C) I need to carry my camera with me more. This flower almost didn't make it to the picture stage, due to my Kenneth Cole's man bag doing a backwards somersault off the faculty lounge table and a bag of Chex Mix rupturing. Ah gravity you are the reason I have no longer have two lamps in my bedroom, why I only have 3 soup bowls left,...Gravity - I shake my fist at you!
Peace and fabulousness!

Day 8: Red

Yesterday I did a flower in watercolor. Kept it real simple. It was one those few times where it just felt right to stop. I was hoping to have Days 1-8 photos up and posted..... and yes! We have take off!
Peace and Fabulousness

Day 7: Red

Alas! Bye bye M&M's! No I didn't eat them ...yet! Today I created a flower from paper that I had found that I had water colored with red watercolor paint. I love flowers, whether it be in my art or my gardens. The variety of color, shapes and textures art times can take one's breath away. Peace and fabulousness!
Just a couple of days until pictures will be posted!!!

Day 6: Red

Once more I played around with my favorite candy treat. I could play with this candy for a long time but have decided to move on to another medium. So many options! Yet at the same time I feel kind of silly talking about candy and mediums. Especially after the death of the 3 year old Terrell in the north side here in Minneapolis. Such a senseless death! He ran to hide when he

heard gun shots with his little plate of spaghetti. No child should have to experience it! It's just wrong! Residence of Minneapolis: north south, east, and west it's time to stand up and stop this pointless violence! NO CHILD DESERVES THIS! !! PEACE and fabulousness.

Day 5: Red

It was kinda cool this morning. I woke up thinking about some ideas of what to do with the color red. The 1 Idea I had turned out way better than I thought. In fact it may turn into a painting eventually. I used for photography in this 1 it's a medium 1 have been hoping to explore some more after a photography class I took this fall for teachers. So much possibility out there

I just want to explore it! Peace and fabulousness!

Day 4: Red

I just couldn't help myself... I had to do more with the M&M's! I had an idea for a bigger project with M&M's but I just didn't have that many red ones left ... no I am tempted to go out and buy some more just to keep playing with this medium. Can you amagine an entire floor covered with M&M art? Or a wall? Or an entire room! Oh the possibilities!!!
peace and fabulousness!

Day 3: Red

Todays inspiration was my all time favorite candy ...drum roll please ......M&M's! Having an abundance of them left from Christmas isn't great for the waist line, but as far as an art medium it's a fun challenge! I may have to play with this "medium " some more. However when a maintenance person stopped by, I was a little embarrassed and Quickly covered it up.
Peace and fabulousness!

Day 2: Red

Today I did a mixed medium using paint, beads, paper baking cups and glitter! Baking corn bread muffins last night, I came across the paper cups and decided to try something with it. It all sort of came together after going for brisk walk in the 15 degree weather. Pictures of this week's project will come on monday when I go back to work...apparently I can't upload it from my

phone. Oh well. Peace and fabulousness!

Day 1: Color Theme :Red

I decided I'm going with the theme color for the year. Starting with red for 2 months then proceding through the rainbow until I get to the end of the year(will I find a pot of gold?). Tonight I started off by making a collage. The word peace is in there because that is a side item of a project I'm hoping to start in conjunction with this year long endeavour. It turned out to be a little more challenging than I thought. Peace and fabulousness to you all.
Btw photo to come soon since my "smart" phone isn't uploading my photo tonight. It must be smart, since Ive been working with it for almost 2 hours and it seems to have one...for now!

Happy New Year 2012

I'm So excited for this new year! I've decided to challenge myself in several different ways, Including this blog which will include 1 creative image per day for the rest of the year. By this evening I'll have decided on the theme and will have my first image download. I can hardly wait! Feel free to give me comments or suggestions. Pizza in fabulousness to everyone!

2012

I took on the challenge of being creative at least once a day for the year 2012.  Starting with the color red, I will create around that color changing colors every other month, working my way through the rainbow (Will there be a pot of gold at the end or just a sugar hungover leprechaun?)
Peace and Fabulousness
